Double Shooter for Your Wedding: Pros and Cons

February 10, 2018 By Jeff Johnson

Adelaide wedding photographersMany Adelaide wedding photographers work in a pair or a team. While others work alone or solo. Both do have their own strengths to tell you, but when it comes to your own wedding, you want to make sure that those strengths are really what you need.

Which is why we’ve breakdown reasons why you should get more than one Adelaide wedding photographers and when they are not that useful.

Two is better than one… for a big party

If your wedding party is going to be a grand one, you know that there’s a chance to miss a person or two. While you want your wedding photographer to cover everyone that attended, that might be impossible as he will have to stand at the entrance for at least a few hours to ensure that. While that happens, the party has already started and a lot of important moments will be missed.

But a second photographer on standby can make sure that all the guests are captured. The main photographer can go on and make sure that nothing is missed from the wedding party.

But if it’s only a small party, a second photographer is likely to only increase your expenses. A single photographer can cover a party of 30 people well, so don’t bother getting a second one unless you’ll be inviting more than 50 people to your wedding.

Overlapping vs. Variety

When your wedding photographers said ‘variety’ make sure that they are not referring to overlapping pictures. This is referring to two photographers who took pictures of the same thing. There are some reasons that this can happen.

The party is small. When there’s nothing much to capture, photographers can begin capturing the same thing over and over again. This results in a waste of time of your photographer and a lot of repeating pictures in the digital files.

There is no coordination between them. Not every photographer can build a good coordination with others. Many are used to working alone and they feel disrupted when someone else is also there. You want your photographers to be a team: people who have worked for a long time and knows how to coordinate.

Newbie assistant simply follows the main photographer. When the ‘partner’ of your main photographer is actually a learning photographer this happens. Some who have never worked on weddings will end up following their main photographer or just happens to take the usual pictures that the main photographer does. However, this type of additional shooter usually costs much lower compared to the others.

On the other hand, the right pair of photographers can take a variety of pictures that add up value to your wedding album. It’s simple, but hard to do. Coordination is necessary to ensure that both are in their position during the first dance. They also have to be opposite to each other when everyone began to flood the dance floor.

Complete coverage of your wedding also becomes possible. Some husband and wife pair of photographers have assigned parts between themselves before the job. One person will focus on capturing all the small details of your wedding party, like those flowers and little kids playing with each other, while the other will be following you and make sure that your whole day is covered.
